profits fund
where can I get donors to fund my non profit?

Baai-Bor Women in Australia Inc is a new 20 months non profit Organisation. Its mission is to help women and children in the war ravaged country of Southern Sudan. more details: www.baaiborwomen.org.au

As the director, I need some suggestions on fund raising and where I should look for financial support as well as volunteers in the community. Any input would be greatly appreciated. God bless!!!

Howdy.
Nice of you to want to help. Sudanese folk have had it pretty rough for quite a while.
I did some volunteer work in Africa (three months in Tanzania) and honestly I don’t think the answer lies in more white land rovers with more white people cruising around supporting a system that just isn’t working. Not what you want to hear but that’s how I feel. Corruption just loves the aid industry.

Assuming your going to go ahead anyhow, make sure you’ve got your organisation all nicely sorted out with full transparency, in dependant auditing and a very clear mission statement. Make sure the Aussie govt recognises your organisation and that you have appropriately trained people to do the many and various things your organisation needs to do. Then you’ll need to be able to operate in Sudan with the co operation of the government (I use the term very loosely )
I’d start with finding the Sudanese clubs in Australia (or whatever Sudanese folk in Australia you can find) and asking them what they think. You may find some very willing co-horts amongst them and they’ll add all sorts of credibility to your cause.

Arrange a cultural performance featuring Sudanese musicians, dancers, poets and other artists to raise awareness in the community of their culture and to build the Australians affinity with them.
We’re bombarded with “please help” so often it’s easy to get compassion fatigue syndrome and just let it all wash over you. People are going to find doing that harder once they’ve connected with the people you want them to help.

If your a religious organisation, ask your church for support.
Put together an awareness package (make it pro and make it short and to the point.) Find youself people with great sales skills and send them out prospecting businesses. Hit the businesses here in Australia that are making money in Sudan, they’ll want to look like theyre doing the right thing.

As a last thought, go see China. They’ve got a hell of an attitude when it comes to making a buck in Sudan. Maybe you could change the way they think.

Oh sorry that’s Amnesty International, an organisation I do support.
